Precision bass at its best?
The bass out of the box is a phenomenon. The finish, the neck is just beautiful. The pine body is wonderful too. You can see the wood grain through the finish.
The neck is a little bit chunkier than the Classic Vibe 60's and 70's precision basses, but this is something I really like in it. I love the 50's headstock as well.
I had a few Indonesian made Squier basses before, and the only thing I don't like in common of these basses are the tuning machines. I don't like the aesthetics of them.
I am a fan of the traditional big leaf or elephant ear type of tuning machines, so it will get a Fender Pure Vintage tuning machine set.
First I had to setup the bass because out of the box the string tension was really high. The truss rod does the work as it should and turns smoothly. After that it was needed to adjust the intonation and the hight of the strings.
It feels really great while playing it.
The pickup is something I just really love. It has a kind of growl and punchy sound which is not like the split single coil I was get used to. Anyway as it is a one piece single coil pickup it has a big noise or hum while you don't touch the strings. I filled the cavities with self-adhesion copper foil and it helped a little bit to reduce that hum.
Maybe a fret leveling would be necessary, but it is something I always do when I buy a new instrument.
The bass is not so light but not that heavy. I can say it has an average weight like the other Fender or Squier models.
Despite those little problems I am really glad to have this bass and I enjoy every minute when I can play it. I can recommend it to anyone.
