The violin arrived in perfect condition—the packaging was undamaged, and everything was clean and brand new. However, as soon as I started tuning it for the first time, the A string broke. I replaced it with a used Thomastik string from my own stock. A few days later, the G string also broke while tuning, which I had to replace as well.
While the violin features a beautiful design and both the overall construction and the fingerboard are very comfortable, I noticed several drawbacks that ultimately made me realize this instrument is not the right fit for me:
Output Jack Placement: The 1/4" jack is in a very awkward position. While playing, the cable presses directly against my shoulder. This becomes even more problematic when trying to attach a rigid, non-folding wireless transmitter.
Tuning Instability: Another significant issue is that the Wittner geared pegs do not maintain a stable pitch. They require constant re-tuning, and the tuning process itself feels very unnatural. Initially, I assumed this was just because the strings were new, but after a week of use, they should have stretched sufficiently, yet the issue persists.
Sound Quality: Lastly, I was disappointed by the instrument's tone, which feels compressed and quite nasal. This is particularly noticeable when playing clean tone on the E string. Although it is possible to adjust the piezo pickup positions and the onboard EQ, this balance issue remains unresolved no matter what adjustments are made.
Overall, it is a decent instrument that might work well for someone else, but it just does not meet my personal needs. I've decided to return it and will likely opt for a more "traditional" Yamaha YEV-105 instead.
