Harley Benton ST-Modern Plus HSS LPB

Túl kevés a hely, hogy mindent leírjak Ráadásul úgy hogy akik döntés előtt állnak, azt el is olvassák. Rengeteg gitár fordult meg a kezem alatt, és jelenleg is viszonylag sok gitárom van.( Gibsonok, ibanezek, stb. stb.) valójában alapvetően én Les Paulos vagyok, ennek oka hogy egy strat sem elégítette ki, nem adta vissza azt a hangzást, amit én egy gitárban keresek. Túl unalmasnak találtam. Viszont azért egy Strat mindenképpen kell egy gitárosnak. Amikor emellett a hangszer mellett döntöttem, a specifikációja miatt választottam. Hozzáteszem ez már a negyedik Harley Benton gitárom (sc 550 II, Sc cutom EMG + ebből 2 is és nyilván ez a strat pedig a negyedik) de végre a hangszer.: A csomagolás tökéletes, a legapróbb részletekre is figyelve, mint például a gitár fejének külön kipárnázása, a kritikus pontokon, pára szívó tasak. A kicsomagolást követően, tényleg tüzetesen, aprólékosan átnéztem a hangszert, és annyira makulátlan, annyira hibátlan, hogy már ez magában öt*. A hangszer élőben egyszerűen fantasztikus, gyönyörű élmény rajta játszani, a bund kidolgozása egyszerűen zseniális!! valóban lekerekített bund szélek! A testfestés nagyon szép, a nyaka, a feje iszonyat kényelmes beleértve a hangoló kulcsokat is. A gitárnak hátsó fele eszméletlen szép, gyönyörű. 100%, hogy a kezed nem fog rajta akadni, letapadni, hanem siklik ahogy kell. A hangszedők: olvastam olyan hozzászólást, amiben aki azt írta hogy a single nyaki pozícióban pedálok nélkül is túl zajos!! Hát akkor elmondanám, hogy két csöves erősítőre kötve sem zajos. Viszonylag sok pedált használok, és nyilván négy-öt Pedál egyszerre, némi, minimális szokásos búgó hang hallható. De közel sem annyira mint mondjuk a Fender player II nél. Amitől éppen ezért váltam meg!! Csak előtte még horror pénzt fizettem ki a réz fóliás Árnyékolásért. Ebben hangszerben ez alapból megvan!! Úgy gondolom hogy a Tesla hangszedők nagyon jól a teljesítenek,blúz, és keményebb rockzenében is. Azért a HSS verziót rendeltem, hogy ne unjam meg a hangját. És tökéletesen döntöttem. A híd hangszedő is fantasztikus. Tényleg keményebb rock irányba is bátran lehet menni. Ráadásul kapsz még felezési lehetőséget is. Ezenkívül kapsz még a csomagban egy viszonylag komoly, és nagyon jó, hatékony tremolót. De rozsdamentes acél bundokat is tartalmaz, az Elixír Húr, amit szintén megkapsz, az már csak hab a tortán!! én azt mondom hogy minden gitárosnak ez a Stat kell! De ha még mindig bizonytalan vagy, nézd meg csak a szerelékeket, külön külön, hogy más gyártó milyen áron teszi ezt neked bele.? Iban….prestige, Fender is csak ötszörös áron. És rozsdamentes acél bundokkal még csak nem is találkozol ötszörös áron más gyártóknál! És a végén, de nem utolsósorban, ki kell hogy emeljem a Thomann csapatát, ügyfél kezelés kapcsán. Tehát mint említettem kettő hangszert rendeltem egy csomagban, egy szállítással. A szállítmány a szállító cég jóvoltából elakadt, 14 nap alatt sem ért el hozzám. És a Thomann csapata biztosított részemre egy másik ugyanolyan teljes értékű csomagot, amit gyakorlatilag kevesebb mint 24.óra alatt elhoztak Magyarországra!! ilyen hozzáállással sem találkozol ma sajnos sehol, csak és kizárólag náluk. Azt gondolom hogy itt már egy sima köszönöm nem elég, de a nagy távolság miatt csak ennyi marad. Nagyon szépen köszönöm!! A sok pozitív élmény miatt, a közeljövőben biztos hogy személyesen is ellátogatok a Thomann Impozáns üzletébe.
Tehát strat, akkor ez a tuti választás.

Nice guitar for the price, but it has it's flaws, mostly qc issues.

Mine had a couple dings on the edge of the headstock and a small crack in the finish where the body meets the neck, but the flaming was gorgeous.
The tuners are fine, but somewhat stiff and not so precise compered to grovers in my opinion. One of the srtings wasn't in the string tree properly, so be sure to check them before you start tuning, so you won't get it stuck and break it between the roller and the post
The neck came nice and straight, but the action was a bit high for me, around 2,1 mm on low E and 1,7 on high E, and even with that, there is some serious fret buzz on the low E.
The fretboard is finished well, frets are nicely polished and rounded, and the fretmarks also look nice.
The pickups are decent, but keep in mind, that they are on the hotter side. The single coils had some grime on them.
The trem system is amazing, really responsive and the tuning is surprisingly stable even with heavy use. Palm muting is a bit strange at first, but i got used to it in minutes.
The pots are not so great on mine, one is really loose and the other is a bit stiff and has a somewhat gritty feel to it. Also the caps on them are a bit crooked, which makes my ocd go nuts.
The finish on the body, besides the small crack at the neck joint, is flawless and looks amazing.

All in all its a nice guitar, especially for the price, but definitely not perfect. Maybe i've got unlucky and for that reason, it doesn't have that wow factor for me, that so many youtubers are talking about.

Guitar was in transit for a while and traveled in a roundabout way to get to me. The outer box was really beat up and torn but thankfuly the inner box with the actual guitar was intact.

After unboxing and closer inspection I found a paint crack near the neck pocket.
Fret ends are rounded and frets themselves appear to be medium jumbo but are not tall.
Fretboard had some glue residue and some dark brown or black gunk near frets. Neck plate feels cheap and had a very sharp edge. No other visual flaws found.
Peeling off the double layer of protective plastic required taking off the pickguard at which point it immediately warped but it doesn't really bother me. After peeling off the plastic the volume and tone knobs turned a lot more smoothly and the push pull pot was easy to pull up.
The routing is HSH configuration.
The 5 way switch feels really nice.
Input jack secures the cable really well.
Weight is about average for guitars at this price but slightly heavier than what I think a strat type should weigh.

Out of the box experience
Out of the box the guitar was almost in tune which was a surprise. Strings looked like new.
That said playing it was really hard. Especially bending. Frets were really scratchy. They looked polished enough but on a closer inspection you could see tiny dents all over.
There was also sympathetic resonance when playing C notes. Trem was really responsive.
Tuners are staggered and locking but very hard to turn. There's a bit of skipping on one or two strings. I might change them in the future.
Neck on my guitar is half flamed and half not but feels really good in the hand. I like it more than Fender necks. It was also dead straight out of the box.

After some tinkering
I cleaned and moisturised the fretboard and changed strings.
Polished frets with polishing rubbers. Now frets feel a lot better but not ideal.
Tried to lower the action but there was buzzing and dead notes below 2mm.
Sympathetic resonance when playing C notes is gone.
Changing strings made bending possible again.
Tuning the guitar was surprisingly difficult. Maybe it's the tuners. I really don't know. After tuning different individual strings would always go sharp. So I had to tune more flat and fiddle around to get all strings in tune. But after that the actual tuning stability was good.

Sound and overall thoughts
To my ears the Tesla pickups are all midrange with some bass and no treble. Which is basically not at all like a traditional strat. To me it really works for rock but clean sounds a bit too dull. Some metal is possible but I don't think these pickups were made for that.
Babicz trem took about 2 days to get used to and still palm muting doesn't work as well for me as with other bridges. Otherwise it works really well.
Overall I'd say for the price ST Modern Plus is a really good value proposition. The compromises made seem to be in the less important areas of the guitar so you would get you a quality bridge, a good feeling neck, and premium specs that other manufacturers can't give you. Just be prepared that you might not get a perfect guitar each time.

Really surprising quality for this price... very nice stainless steel frets, "usual strat Fender size" (with rounded ends), not the "medium Jumbo" SS as on the higher end HB Les Pauls (I have two of those).

Sounds great, Tesla pickups are actually very good... I'm in the USA, import / customs hit a snag for a few days but that straightened out.

Slightly more "shoulder" to the neck shape compared to usual Fender Strat shape, but I'll get used to it. Seeing the sample photos of flame in the maple / the neck, I wasn't optimistic on getting one with a flamed neck, but to my surprise the one I got did have a pretty good amount of flame. You never know what your going to get. No flaws, great value!
