The best that's available
Dr. T. 16.09.2023
It's hard to describe in words how much better the sound is than the UCX II, and that was nothing. RME Audio has gone all out this time, I've had it for almost 3 months as I write this, I sold a UFX II because of it. For me it is mainly Intstrument channels 9/10 & 10/11 that are in heavy use and used for synth input. They never sounded so good, the DURec is in constant use standalone alongside an ARC USB...I don't know when I last turned on the computer because of it, maybe when I saved the settings...

THE interface
jakeonfiree 25.01.2025
I've had this for a few months now. While I haven't been able to try out every little thing I can do, it's a great interface for a wildly great price here at Thomann. The conversion is noticeably better than my Apollo Twin X was, both listening via headphones and my studio monitors. The options for expansion are wonderful too. I'm slowly getting my head around Totalmix, but I've already found it to be great for routing with outboard gear. More mic preamps would be nice at this price point, but you can only fit so much in a 1U chassis.

RME UFX III and Thomann both deliver!
solarfly 18.06.2026
I ran the RME Babyface FS Pro for a lot of years now, and if you have experienced Totalmix for routing and high quality AD/DA, then you will appreciate just how much of an upgrade the Fireface UFX III from RME is.

I have been expanding my analog outboard and needed more ins and outs with the flexibility of routing port to port within the hardware. The UFX III has a total AD/DA latency of 11 samples per conversion and less than 1 sample over ADAT or MADI. Translation is if you want to dynamically route between a few pieces of outboard without rewiring a patchbay, you can. I chained my WA273-EQ, SSL Bus+ and Fusion all through AD/DA with a sub 2ms round-trip to and from the DAW to work as my master mix. This keeps the flexibility to use these devices in tracking.

The loopback feature on each output has been a staple for me to be able to collaborate with other musicians over zoom. I can route all or part of a mix over a loopback that is also used for WDM output.

Finally, I used my Babyface as a monitor out controller, connected from the Fireface UFX III over ADAT Out.

Next a i'm expanding this with a Ferrofish 16 MX over MADI to allow more outboard compressors and routing. At some point when the latency or conversions become an issue, I'll route everything to a patchbay, but it's so nice RME has this high performance and flexibility.

Really like Thomann's customer service. They delivered to the US just as fast as a local company would, and their support staff are fantastic!
